Never Stop Learning

Sometimes answers are right in front of you. But you fail to see them. I wasn’t really looking today to make things easier in my sewing but there was a simple answer…right. infront. of. me.

I’m currently working on an order for an Etsy boutique called DreamState.  If you get a chance, check her out! It’s an adorable little shop filled with things for babies and brides. Here is one of the pillow covers she printed her adorableness onto.

Anyway, I’m sewing a set of wall hangings for her (to be listed in my shop’s Home Decor supply section soon) and typically I don’t switch out my presser feet. Well, except for buttons, zippers, and some decorative stitching. I would say 90% of the time I use the “main” presser foot. If I need to top stitch or edge stitch I just use that and try my best to keep it even. Ok, hold the phone…WHY? I have a foot with a little guide which is absolutely  PERFECT for me to topstitch! Oh my gosh! What a time saver. Which is definitely what I need these days when things get busy. And they are busy..lol!

So I had to share my tiny “right in front of my face” epiphany I had today. This year I will learn all of these parts of my machine that I never use. More things to keep me busy 🙂 Anyway my friends…never stop learning!!!
Until next time,

New Year, New Store, New Princesses

So there is a theme here. I betcha already know what it is! NEW! Yeah, that’s right! Since we moved, I’ve been trying to get into the swing of things. I’m finding it easier to manage now but somethings are time consuming. Heck, they’ve always been time consuming but its different here. I am such a creature of habit (and evidently so are my kids). No matter if the change is for better or worse, I’m drastically affected.  So my dreamy eyed plans of “how it will be when…” didn’t pan out like I thought. I’ll tell ya why. I still have 4 kids who NEED me. Especially when I have work in my *new* office to do. It’s like just because I am in a different room than them…the NEED increases to such a level that its unbearable. Mind you, they are no longer toddlers sticking their little toddler fingers under the bathroom door when you need 5 mins to pee. No, these are kids who have been taught how to be independent and how to keep themselves alive…so they KNOW THINGS.  But alas…they reverted back because I wasn’t within an arms reach.  I really thought they would have been able to occupy themselves more. They have a nice pool and friends in the neighborhood, so there is plenty to do. Maybe this coming summer will be better….fingers crossed.

Then there is the problem of my workspace got bigger! I have room to store things, room to spread out, room with a view, room, room room! How is this a problem?  I still work like I’m in a tiny cubicle,  with things piled on top of each other. I wish I could look at my space and immediately know what will be the most effective. I have rearranged a couple of times now and I think I have it right…atleast for right now.

I know, small problems/not a real problem in the grand scheme of things. But this is why I haven’t done what I wanted to do last year with my shop. So this year is going to be what I thought last year should have been! So..I have relisted some favorites in the etsy shop like Jessie

https://www.etsy.com/listing/251606857/cowgirl-jessie-toy-story-dress-jessie?ref=shop_home_active_4

And I have fabric on hand to make Jessie’s pal Woody. So if your interested..send me a message!

Another *NEW* thing is, I have updated etsy to the pattern website, which I love! So many options for layouts to enhance my pictures. I did manage to sew up a *NEW* princess dress when I made a birthday gift a couple of weeks ago. That will be listing as soon as I can get a sweet little 3 yr old to model it. But here is a sneak peek!

I also have a *NEW* Lil Mermaid version to list….

Annnnd I also have these great fabrics for spring I want to cut into.

So if you see something you like…send me a message for that too!!!

Well until next time…

Addy Mae wrap up

Last week, I shared pics of the Addy Mae blankets from the A Vision to Remember blog tour with you. I hope you enjoyed the blankets and the posts all week. Each one was unique in its own way. I love that about sewing- even when you are all using the same pattern, they all come out different!

While everyone else was busy sharing their blankets with you, I was busy at the machine sewing up my own blanket! I am in love with this one! I don’t know if I will list it for sale, gift it as a baby gift, or keep it for myself!

*The fabric and pattern for this quilt were provided to me by Bobbi, the designer behind A Vision to Remember, the opinions and fabric placement are all mine though*

Quilting 101: Addy Mae Car Seat & Tent

I love her bright colors!!!!

Sew Far North

The hardest part about making any quilt is choosing the fabric. This is even harder when I don’t know who the quilt is for, don’t own a car seat – or a baby for that matter! Originally I was going to hack this pattern into a cat cage cover. After all, those furry critters get chilly in their cages, but a friend is expecting her first grandchild in spring, so I decided to make the pattern as is. It looks so very cute after all.

IMG_3210 Love, love, love this look!

My girlfriend, an accomplished quilter and seamstress says quilting isn’t usually undertaken by the young for the following reasons. Fabric, notions and miscellaneous supplies can be expensive; it calls for time, which most people don’t have; it calls for precision and the ability to follow instructions carefully. I’m not sure I agree with her to he honest. I see a lot of…

A Vision to Remember Blog Tour

The Addy Mae Quilt by A Vision To Remember is the absolutely perfect go to for an easy gift to make for a new mom!  This is one of those things I wished I would have had for my 2 babies who were born in Oct and March.

IMG_7283-1.jpg

I made this on Friday when it started snowing here. I thought I would be able to hang it on my make shift clothesline for some pictures outside….but no.  It’s still snowing!   So the banister will have to do.

IMG_7284-1

The most time consuming about this is cutting out the squares or rectangles. And the instructions tell you what order to sew the squares and rectangles so don’t be scared to try this!!!  It goes together quickly!

This is a gift for my neighbor but she doesn’t know what the gender is right now. Soooo if she ends up having a girl, I will probably add some bows to this!  I think it would be adorable!! I didn’t use batting so that it’s not too warm of a blanket.  She has a few months before her baby is due and the really cold weather will be gone by then. The brown dot is flannel (so so snuggly!) and the rest is woven cotton.  I also left off the baby canopy tabs for now, but once she gets her carseat I will add them.

IMG_7286-1

So for now, she has a cute little rag quilt. I hope you check out what everyone else made in the Blog Tour!!  They have some cute fabric combos as well 🙂 Thanks for letting me make this Bobbie!  It was a fun sew!
A Vision to Remember Addy Mae is the perfect gift for all those little babies this winter! Be sure to check out the different blankets this week!
